Alta United Methodist Church

Reaching Caring Loving

United Methodist Women meet the first Wednesday

of each month at 2pm. (September to May)

WHAT IS THE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN (UMW)?

United Methodist Women is a national membership organization inThe United Methodist Church whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders and advocate for justice.  Members raise millions of dollars a year for programs and projects to women, children and youth in the United States and in numerous countries around the world.

The purpose of the Alta UMW is to be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PART OF THE UMW?

A member of United Methodist Women is one who commits herself to our PURPOSE and chooses to participate in one or more of the following:  meetings, prayer, giving, study, action, and/or service.  One becomes a member by committing to be a part of this supportive community of women by accepting the challenge to grow in mission and to participate in life-changing experiences.  The organization celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to be members.

This community of women is:

  •      Centered in relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
  •      Focused on ministries with women, children and youth.
  •      Involved in mission both locally and globally.
  •      Involved in various events, projects, issues, and concerns of United Methodist Women.
  •      Committed to personal growth.
  •      Pledged to provide prayers, time, skills, and financial gifts for mission.
  •      Participant in the UMW reading program and reading the Response Magazine, the voice of the national UMW.

AN INVITATION TO YOU TO GET INVOLVED

We invite you to explore how you can share the gifts that are within you.  Too busy to join a UMW Circle but feel called to serve?  Do you have 10-12 hours a year to serve God in Christian mission? Cannot attend meetings but would like to pledge and participate in planned events when possible?  Then you can join as a UMW member-at-large and choose how and when you serve.

UMW CIRCLES

The Alta UMW is organized into Circles, which are small groups formed for friendship and study. Circles or small groups are the heart and soul of the supportive fellowship that is the UMW.  Our local circles are Martha, Ruth, and Susannah Wesley.

Circle Meeting Times:

Ruth (day circle):  Third Wednesday of each month at 2:00p.m. at the church.  Exceptions are July and August.

Martha (day circle):  Third Wednesday of each month at 2:00p.m. at the church.  Exceptions are July and August.

Susannah Wesley (evening circle):  Second Monday of each month at 7:00p.m. at the church.  Exceptions are June, July and August.

THEME-BASED UNITS OR CIRCLES

If you are unable to attend any of the above UMW unit or circles we invite you to get involved in a theme-based unit or circle.  This especially offers young women in particular an alternative to the more traditional unit or circles.  You can meet anywhere at any time that is convenient.  Express your common interests or needs you want to pursue and these will form the basis for your programs and action.

As part of the Alta UMW you will experience the companionship of other Christian women in your church and your community and enjoy the spiritual fulfillment and joy from serving Christ.  Remember ALL women are invited to all UMW functions.  We welcome you and want to share what UMW is all about.  We are women of many gifts and of one spirit and strive to make a positive difference to many individuals in our hometown and communities all around the globe.
