This year, as a church family, we assisted 23 families in our Alta community (inclusive of 107 people) with basket-boxes of food items and goods. Thanks to everyone who gave and helped!
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Alta UMC supports a number of community events, outreach and civic organizations, and ministries through volunteer support and the use of our building as a meeting place.
Cub Scouts
Alta UMC holds the charter for Pack #108 of Boy Scouts of America. Scouts meet every week on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm. http://www.scouting.org/

Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO)
Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. is one of 18 Community Action Agencies in the State of Iowa. UDMO strives to deliver a wide range of high-quality services to individuals, families, and children. Although we continue to experience a fairly strong economy and low unemployment rate, there are many in our area who still need services. Many of these individuals and families are our "working poor", earning low wages or living without health insurance and other benefits. UDMO's wide range of high-quality services provides a helping hand during times of crisis, aiding families as they get back on their feet. Compassionate staff members work diligently to provide continued support, encouraging families to achieve self sufficiency.

11 Main Street in Alta.. It serves as assistance for those who are in need of clothing items, small household items, and furniture as available by donation). The store is open on Fridays and Saturdays, at varying posted hours. It is open to the public, without regard to need or assistance. Open Fridays 9am-1pm and Saturdays 10am to 4pm. Village Northwest Unlimited / Soles4Souls Alta UMC has partnered with Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, Iowa and Soles4Souls by collecting new and gently used shoes. This mission outreach provides work opportunities for 180 people with a disability served by VNU. After the shoes are processed at VNU they are shipped to Soles4Souls for distribution domestically and internationally to individuals that do not have proper footwear. Soles4Souls currently distributes shoes in 125 countries and is distributing a pair of shoes every 7 seconds. It is not too often that an opportunity comes along to change the world. Here is that opportunity. Bring your shoes and place them in the VNU /Soles4Souls Collection Box at the church. This is be an ongoing outreach project of our church so continue to bring shoes as often as you can. Remember that by doing so you can change the world, one pair of shoes at a time!
